Lately, I have been inspired to learn about bees and wasps because of my intense fear/borderline phobia of them. I have been doing research to identify different nests and hives, to educate myself about which ones I should stay away from, which ones are beneficial for the farm, and which ones are invasive. I wanted to put together an informative newsletter about my learnings, but frankly, my brain isn’t feeling organized enough at the moment to do so. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we are all beginning our rotation of taking a 5-day vacation from the farm, leaving all responsibilities behind to enjoy other pursuits. This weekend is my turn to leave and its all I’m thinking about.

Even though this newsletter is basically justifying my excuse for bailing on a well researched essay on bee culture, I’m gonna do it anyways, because I feel like we’ve all been in the position of being at work and going through the motions just to get to the weekend. Don’t get me wrong; I love my job and give it my all pretty much everyday. But the season is winding down, and the pressure is much lighter, and I have the ability to relax and lose my focus just a little bit. I’m feeling no shame about it.

We have an amazing group of friends and family who have rallied to help us finish out this season and enable us each to take time off. Knowing that the farm is going to be left in good hands makes me have no worries whatsoever about leaving. This is my favorite time of year - when the sunlight starts to wane, the temperatures cool, the mosquitos GTFO of my face, and its all around more enjoyable to be outside. Before we know it, it’s going to be winter in a pandemic, and who knows what that will look like.

So I bid my farewell publicly and dramatically, because it’s all I’m thinking about, if only for 5 days. I will not see any of you at the markets this weekend, and I will not miss you. It’s only Tuesday, but if anyone else has their eyes on the weekend and isn’t really feeling anything else, I hear ya. Cheers to us!
