We are grateful to add to this week’s share a few items from Pinehold Gardens. Back in the earliest stages of planning our farm, we reached out to David and Sandy, the owners and farmers of Pinehold Gardens, just a few miles down the road. Soon after, they became our mentors and friends, sharing their equipment and supplies without hesitation, their knowledge, and welcoming us into the farming community by introducing us to other farmers and suppliers in the area. In just two years, we have begun to think of them as our “farm parents”. We are constantly asking them questions as they have extensive knowledge of farming in this climate, of the land, and of the plants they grow. While we are constantly learning as we work our land, there are some things you can only learn from elders. The wisdom that comes from working the same land and building relationships with a community cannot be denied.

We definitely look up to the farms who have built a strong community through their CSA. Their members are now friends, and they truly have community supported agriculture. Part of belonging to a CSA is sharing in the reward and the risk. Just as all farmers, David and Sandy have seen their share of rough seasons, and know how stressful it can be to farm in an ever changing and less predictable climate. One of the main patterns that we keep seeing in David and Sandy, is that they always offer to share whatever extra they have. As a new farm, we couldn’t be more thankful for this relationship, and we hope that one day, we can be as lucky to be in the position to share our bounty and wisdom with a strong community that comes together around food.
