Signs of winter are all around us. There are obvious signs; leaves changing and morning frosts; and less obvious signs; the urge to keep sleeping after the alarm has gone off and choosing a warm, comforting meal instead of a crisp salad. The seasons are changing and sending signals to our collective consciousness, alarming us that things out-of doors are going to be drastically different in a few months.

These signs remind us that there is much to prepare for. As farmers, we are greatly aware of the fact that the days for growing food are rapidly shortening. We have planted everything there is to plant, and the weather will decide when, and if, it will come to maturity. What was once our thriving pepper greenhouse, will by properly adjusted approximations, be home to November’s greens, radishes, and turnips.

As ripened Wisconsinites, we know the severity and unpredictability of our winters and the months preceding. In this reality lies the true meaning and importance of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). We want to thank you all, once again, for your support through this season. Record rainfall, flooding, and a cooler than normal summer has led to a less predictable season and subsequently lower yields than planned for. Farming is risky business. Fortunately CSA affords us a support network unlike any other business (and even many relationships) - Where solidarity and love surround people and practices as much as (if not more than) the products themselves.
