This past season has gone so fast; it’s hard to believe that it was six whole months ago that we were transplanting and building high tunnels in the pouring rain. And yet, so much has happened. We have gotten to know our soil better; observing those subtle variances in the field, how the water moves and doesn’t move, where there is more sand and greater porosity, and where the densest clay remains. We’ve learned what type of insect pressure to expect, what types of diseases are specific to our climate, and that the weather will most likely be whatever we least expect. We’ve already seen a significant improvement in our soil fertility from last season; felt in the texture of the soil and seen in the vitality of the crops. One of the most important things we have experienced this season was to continue building relationships with our customers. From you, our CSA members, to the regulars at the farmers markets, we have experienced unwavering support.
While Community Supported Agriculture nourishes individuals within a community, it also enables the care taking of land and the cultivation of life there. If we do anything in this lifetime, it is enough knowing that you left a place better than it was. Without a doubt, this CSA collective made that possible here. There’s no way we could have had such a strong start this spring without your investment in us, in sustainable agriculture, and local economy.
