What’s in your share?

  • Salad Mix

  • Spinach

  • Bok Choy

  • Cilantro

  • Kale

  • Radishes

The first share of the season is always a roller coaster of emotions. Spring can be unpredictable; temperatures swinging from frosts to mid-80s in a days time, and skies potentially darkened for weeks. There is a tense excitement to see how (or whether) the crops will come along. Planning and technique only tally so high next to the commanding variables of temperature, humidity, wind, precipitation. We’ve learned to understand and respect that only so much is up to us. And this sentiment bears strongest on our first and final harvests.

Luckily, here we are in our fifth season, with what looks to be a pretty awesome first share!

Kale needs to be covered at all times for protection from insects. Too bad, because it’s so pretty!

This season we made the monumental decision to take a year off from farmers markets and focus our energy on growing for our CSA program. Thanks to the wonderful folks that make up our community, we are in a place where we are comfortable taking this leap. There is a lot that goes into making this move, and we will fill you in on our reasons, feelings, and experiences throughout the season. A big thing however, is we look forward to this freeing up nearly 3 days/week previously dedicated to harvesting, packing, and selling; and make more time for stewarding our land, our community and ourselves; spending quality time with friends and family; and honing in on growing for and alongside our CSA - you, and all the members who have, quite literally, kept our farm going throughout these beginning years.

Bok choy has been one of the vegetables through which we are able to see the most drastic improvements in our soil health over the years.

The shared risk, commitment, and attention inherent to CSA makes way for a truly rare relationship. In times of increased isolation and individualism, member organizations such as CSA offer a place to form bonds beyond one-off financial transactions. Bonds that last and grow. Throughout these last few years, we’ve found that just as much as we are here for our members, you are here for us. We hope that together - you, us, and our farm (and all it’s inhabitants) -we will generate the health, creativity, meaning, and love that we all need!

Simple meals in Spring are the best! Andouille sausage, creamy grits, lightly sauteed kale, and big bowl of spinach with a cilantro garnish for everything.
